Zach Seibold is a Lecturer in Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Research Associate with the Material Processes and Systems (MaP+S) Group. His research asks how emerging fabrication techniques and material technologies can impact the production of architectural form.
Seibold’s work with the MaP+S group has included the development of integrated digital workflows for novel fabrication methods such as 3D printed ceramics and magnetically-controlled casting processes, as well as several pavilion scale installations that expand the formal and structural capacities of ceramic material systems.
He is co-founder of VHS Office, a design practice that has completed several residential projects in New York and Massachusetts. His past experience in professional practice includes Höweler + Yoon, where he designed and prototyped projects such as FloatLab, a floating structure designed for the Schuylkill River which received a 2018 Progressive Architecture Award, and Swingtime. Seibold also worked with the design practice MOS on multiple residential and institutional projects, as well as the MoMA: Foreclosed exhibition.
Seibold received a Master of Design Studies with a concentration in Technology from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University. Before joining the GSD, he taught design and technology seminars at the Wentworth Institute of Technology and Syracuse University. His research and design work has been published and exhibited internationally, and he is the recipient of the IASS Hangai Prize for his work on robotically fabricated shell structures.
