{"id":252,"date":"2018-11-03T21:36:43","date_gmt":"2018-11-03T21:36:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.gsd.harvard.edu\/healthy\/?page_id=252"},"modified":"2025-09-13T20:13:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-14T00:13:05","slug":"funding-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.gsd.harvard.edu\/healthy\/student\/funding-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Funding Opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-student-funding-opportunities\">Student Funding Opportunities<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-research-grants-for-gsd-students-and-scholars\"><strong>Research Grants for GSD Students and Scholars<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Masters: <\/strong>Our thesis and project-based course Travel and Research Grants provide up to $700 in funding to help offset travel and other research-related expenses for GSD students masters students doing theses,MUP project-based courses, and MDE Independent Design Engineering Projects with relevance to human health and well-being. <a href=\"\/healthy\/research-grant-recipients\/\">Read prior recipient work<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Doctoral: <\/strong>For doctoral students we will provide up to $1,000 toward dissertation expenses. We may also, from time to time, fund post-doctoral scholars at the GSD if their work is <strong>very closely<\/strong> related to that of the lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" id=\"h-how-to-apply\"><strong>HOW TO APPLY<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants are required to submit the following in one PDF:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A cover letter stating your name, degree program, type of activity (e.g. thesis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A copy of the thesis or dissertation proposal or a brief summary of the project-based course. Independent study projects do qualify if they count as PBCs in the MUP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A resume or CV<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An unofficial transcript<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An itemized budget and timeline\/itinerary for the proposed work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The names of one or two faculty familiar with the work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end students should prepare a brief description for posting on a web site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals will be judged according to quality of the proposal, relevance to the topic of health and well-being, prior engagement with the topic of healthy places (e.g. via coursework, internships and work experience, student group activities), and in terms of whether the funding will make a real difference to the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GSD students<\/strong>&nbsp;should apply directly via&nbsp;Harvard\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/carat.fas.harvard.edu\/applicant\/newApplication?applicationPurposeId=4&amp;fundingSourceId=7173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CARAT<\/a><\/strong> system. Applications are due at the end of each month, and reviewed within three weeks.
