<\/span>The Healthy Places Student Group has taken on participatory budgeting as one of its core projects, bringing participatory budgeting to the GSD for the first time! We want to give community members more control over decisions in our school, and in the process learn about this powerful tool.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are currently in progress with the 21′-22′ PB process<\/a> and have completed two PB processes so far – one in Fall ’19 with $5,000 focused on projects that could make the GSD a healthier place, and one in Spring ’20 focused on making life more bearable for students during COVID-19.  Read more on the Fall process here<\/a> and the Spring process here. <\/a>We have written a manual based on both processes.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT IS PARTICIPATORY BUDGETING (PB)?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Participatory budgeting (PB) is a powerful tool that can help community residents, planners & elected officials work to deepen democracy and create radical financial transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT DOES PB LOOK LIKE AT THE GSD?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It looks like having funding to spend on projects that support health at the GSD, broadly defined! What do we need to do to make Gund\/GSD healthier? How do we democratize the functioning of this school? Pitch an idea and vote! The process is being facilitated by the Healthy Place Student Group\u2019s Participatory Budgeting Steering Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
