He holds a B.A. degree in International Relations from El Colegio de M\u00e9xico, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, and the University of California, Berkeley, respectively. He has been a visiting scholar at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at UC San Diego, and the Hayward R. Alker postdoctoral fellow at the Center for International Studies at the University of Southern California.
