Vias Nuevas de Lima comprises the expansion and revitalization of 115 km in the Panamericana Norte, Panamericana Sur and Ramiro Prialé highways that provide access to the Lima Metropolitan Area. This project belongs to a greater transit master plan that addresses the traffic infrastructure needs of contemporary Lima and Callao by connecting Lima’s three major access corridors while integrating 23 highly populated districts. The project impacts mobility and connection by creating neighborhood hubs that allow streamlined pedestrian, private, and public transportation integration. Additionally, the project will improve quality of life by establishing educational workshops for the employees and community at large and by promoting the creation of economically and environmentally sustainable businesses.
The mayor of Lima through a concession agreement with Rutas de Lima initiated this highway mega-project. The infrastructure of the Panamericana Highway will be retrofitted, operated and maintained for a period of 30 years through a design and construction phase and an operation and maintenance phase. The public investment is U$S 67.795 million for land release/expropriations, and US $32 million for public infrastructure and relocations. The private developer total amount of investments is projected to be $590 Million USD distributed over the course of four years starting in 2013. This amount includes socio-environmental program fees that will seek to incorporate the community into the design process and aid the creation of sustainable local businesses.
