Perception
Today’s advanced fabrication and material technologies present unprecedented flexibility and opportunity to create almost anything, at least when we don’t consider cost. Given that lack of constraints, the design question for material environments is being posed anew. Given that we spend 90% of our time indoors, how might materials and their designs affect our perception and behavior? Our work on material perception sheds light on selected aspects of this question.
Using VR, we studied the effect of interior materials on the subjective perception of temperature, as well as the effect materials have on tolerance to normally uncomfortable temperatures.
