Inhabiting the Edge

Wen Wen | Master in Architecture I, Candidate

The project set out to investigate the “edge condition” of different parks in the various neighborhoods
of Mexico City DF – the assumptions are that parks are representative of the socio-economic
conditions of the neighborhood in which they’re situated, and that the physical edge of the parks themselves could expand or contract to accommodate the multitude of spatial layering that take place.
Through diagramming the different sections of these edges, including their materiality and the objects that occupy, as well as the activities that take place in the physical space, the project provides a taxonomy of livelihood that, together with a go-pro documentary, constitute an important repertoire for studying the “public-ness” of parks and (hopefully) shed light on future design decisions as well as maintenance strategies.
